Assistant Fire Chief

The Assistant Chief of the Department is the second in command of the agency. He/She is the second Adminstrative and Operations Officer. The Assistant Chief assumes the duties of the Chief in his/her absence.

Assistant Fire Chief Derek Kidd has been a volunteer firefighter since the age of 16. He first joined with neighboring Faber Volunteer Fire Department, quickly moving into an position of Administrative Secretary and then Operational Lieutenant. Derek then joined Roseland Rescue Squad where he served as an EMT-Basic, as well as Lieutenant for the Squad. In 2007, he joined the ranks of Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department where he has held the position of Membership President, Safety Officer, 1st and 3rd Lieutenant, 1st Captain,  a short period as Acting Fire Chief, and his current role of Assistant Fire Chief. 

Assistant Chief Kidd is also a certified 911 Telecommunications Officer in Nelson County, where he is certified to provide Pre-arrival Emergency Medical Dispatch to citizens experiencing medical emergencies.
